For a clearer definition, golf is an outdoor lawn sport in which competing players (golfers) using many types of clubs, attempt to hit balls into each hole on a golf course in the lowest number of strokes. It is one of the few ball games that does not use a standardized playing area; rather the game is played on golf “courses”, each one of which has a unique design and normally consists of either 9 or 18 holes. Golf is labeled as “playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules”.

A golf competition is generally played for the lowest number of strokes by the player, known simply as stroke play, or for the lowest score on the most individual holes during a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play.

There are many ways how to achieve golf fitness and one of which is doing the golf swing the right way. Below will be various golf swing tips and instructions. Whether you are completely a newbie in the world of golfing or a more experienced player looking to become a successful tournament player, below are  useful golf swing tips and strategies to help you learn how to play golf, shoot lower scores and reduce your golf handicap and become as good as you can be.

It is quite challenging how to swing a golf club and how to play golf well. There are many golf swing instructions that you are about to learn but it is important to follow simple methods first. Oftentimes, the simplest golf swing is also the most effective at hitting the ball farther and straighter.

First instruction is the grip. It is the foundation of your golf swing and having the right grip is critical to your goal in hitting the ball farther and straighter. There are types of grips that can be used and here are the following:

The Interlocking Grip – This grip allows your index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand combine and interlock. This is commonly used by the ones with thick hands, or shorter hands. This is usually the best option for most people and will allow you to create proper leverage for maximum power.

The Overlapping Grip – This one involves allowing the little finger of the right hand sit on top of the index finger of the left hand. It is used by most male golfers because it does require strong wrists and forearms.

The Baseball Grip –This grip allows your index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand do not overlap but do make contact with each other. For beginners and the ones with weaker arm, this is the commonly used grip.

The second among the golf swing instructions that can be found in this article is called "The Stance". To achieve this, one must make sure that your weight will be equally balanced. It is a must to stay relaxed over the golf ball as any tension will affect the quality of your golf swing so make sure to follow this important golf tip. You want to bend at the hips when addressing the golf balls and have a slight flex in the knees too. Let your arms hang naturally once you bend your hips, avoid extending your arms straight as there should be an angle between the arms and the shaft.

The third tip is "The Backswing". Player must keep the left arm straight (right handed players) during the backswing and go back as far as you can. Your tempo is dictated by your personality, some people are naturally slow movers so will have a slower tempo while others tend to move faster so do what is most comfortable for you.

Fourth among the golf swing tips given is " The Downswing". One of the important things in the downswing is to keep your head in the same position. Start your downswing with the hips and keep your head behind the ball until your follow through. Do not use your right hand to try to generate more power. The power in your golf swing will come from the leverage in the angle between the club and your wrists. Try to hold the angle between the clubs and the wrists as much as possible in order to generate maximum power. Do not rush the downswing as this will usually cause in poor shots and inconsistency.

Last but not the least instruction is the "The Follow Through". After impact you want the club to fully release while keeping your head behind the ball. Your head should naturally come up with your right shoulder, so your chin should be over your right shoulder and your head facing the target to complete the follow through.

These are the various golf swing instructions however, bear in mind that it is a must to have some patience when learning the golf swing, go to the range and practice your swing without hitting any golf balls to start and then as you feel more comfortable with your swing you can start hitting a few balls.

Use these golf swing instructions to practice your swing on the range for a few days, maybe even a couple of weeks until you are comfortable before you go out to the golf course. Just relax and stay focus on your targets when you are on the course and try to avoid thinking about swing mechanics on the golf course, rather focus on trusting and believing in your game.
