Popular Teams
The women’s gymnastics team at Alabama plays at Coleman Coliseum. Sarah Patterson is their coach. They compete for a National Championship every year. They won a NCAA team title in four different years. They won one in 1988, 1991, 1996, and in 2002. The team has been to the NCAA Regionals 28 times, winning 23 times. The Tide has won the SEC championship 6 times, including this year. Bama has had success in other sports as well. The team has had success in women’s soccer, volleyball, and women’s rowing. Todd Bramble is the coach of the women’s soccer team. Judy Green is the coach of the volleyball team. The team finished the 2004 season 21-9 but failed to make it to the Women’s Volleyball Championship. There were many people there cheering with their Alabama Crimson Tide merchandise. Women’s rowing was the last sport that has been added to Bama’s sports. Larry Davis is the coach. The school offers club sports of: cricket, cycling, crew, disc golf, lacrosse, ice hockey, rugby union, racquetball, men’s soccer, tennis, team handball, triathlon, wheelchair basketball, Ultimate, water polo, bass fishing, wrestling, and water skiing.
Becky Burleigh is head coach of the Florida Gators’ soccer team. The team became a national contender in only their third year of existence. They beat North Carolina, which was a national powerhouse. There were many fans there furiously waving their Florida Gators merchandise. Mike Holloway is the head coach of the women’s and men’s track and field team. Mary Wise is the coach of the Gators’ volleyball team.
Georgia’s men’s tennis team has won 32 Southeastern Conference championships, with 25 being regular season championships and the other 7 SEC tournament championships. Many fans have been to several of these championships. All of these fans had on some form of Georgia Bulldogs merchandise.
LSU’s Dennis Shaver coaches the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams. He is a good coach. Fans know this and they come to many of the matches wearing their purple and gold LSU Tigers merchandise.
The University of Texas has proven that they have a strong tradition in men’s golf. They have a large following of fans wearing their Texas Longhorns merchandise. The men’s track and field and cross country coach is Bubba Thornton. Texas has finished in the top 25 in the country for most of the past quarter of a century.
